Green Juice Combinations!

This combination is my ULTIMATE SUPER JUICE in my opinion it is the best for absolutely everything, from kidney cleansing to skin support, it does not taste as amazing as some of the fruitier juices but it really doesn’t taste bad either! I am not going to put exact amounts as you can adjust it to your own taste and quantity. And just remember you don’t necessarily HAVE to own a juicer, see my picture tutorial on how to make green juice without a juicer.

2-3 Cabbage leaves, red or green your choice. For wrapping*
Watercress
Rocket
Parsley
Spinach leaves
Kale
celery
Broccoli
cucumber
1 apple or pear
1-2 carrots
1 inch of ginger
1 lemon - peel and all! This is great to aid the absorption of iron from the greens and keeps the juice from oxidizing too fast.
1/2 beetroot.
sometimes I refrigerate a cup of green tea overnight and then add that to my juice for antioxidant power.

*A helpful tip to those with a centrifugal juicer, I buy a whole cabbage and wrap my loose leaves in little parcels and compact them, as I find loose leaves don’t juice very well in centrifugal juicers.

Refreshing and re hydrating juice
Better than any sports drink you could buy!!

2-3 Stalks of celery
1/4 cucumber
small bunch of mint
Watermelon
handful of spinach
Juice it all up then mix it with coconut water.

Green Machine

Cabbage for wrapping
Kale
Spinach
Parsley
Watercress
Rocket
Romaine
Broccoli
Cucumber
1 apple - for taste, or if you don’t wan the sugar you can leave it out

Green JuiceI was thinking this morning just how much information is available about nutrition, and how complex it can seem. I then thought to myself - what is ONE thing that I would recommend to myself for my health before I studied Nutrition? What would be the one thing that I believe is absolutely essential to heath, the one thing that would be of least cost and provide maximum benefit? The one thing I came up with is: GREEN JUICE.. No matter what your health status, weight level, ethical standpoint of food, or economical situation (within reason) a green juice every day will reap the greatest benefits and provide you with such a wide range of synergistic vitamins, minerals and fibre. Ditch the vitamin supplements and get juicing!!

Here are just a FEW of the beneficial nutrients in a green juice:
Chlorophyll : blood cleansing and anti inflammatory.
Magnesium : bone and nerve nutrient
Beta Carotene: Immune health, skin and eye strengthener
Antioxidants: carotenoids, and bioflavionoids prevent aging
and chronic disease
Calcium: Blood and nerve nutrient.

I could go on, but I won’t. You get the picture!

The portobello burger. Delicious, nutritious and vegetatarian! (Except for the cheese, which you can leave off if you like)
Make as you would a regular burger, replace mince pattie with a portobello mushroom.
So very simple, and super yummy.

portobello mushrooms
2 Tbsp. olive oil
1 tsp. dried Italian seasoning, crushed
4 slices provolone cheese
4 ciabatta rolls, split, or wholegrain bread
1/3 cup mayonnaise mixed with EXTRA hot chilli sauce
4 to 8 pieces roasted red sweet pepper
3/4 cup fresh basil leaves

1.
Scrape gills from mushroom caps, if desired. Drizzle mushrooms with oil. Sprinkle salt, pepper and crushed Italian seasoning.
2.
On charcoal grill, cook mushrooms on rack of uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 6 to 8 minutes, turning once halfway through cooking. Top each mushroom with a cheese slice. Place rolls, split sides down, on grill rack. Grill 2 minutes more, until cheese is melted, mushrooms are tender, and rolls are toasted.
3.
Serve mushrooms on rolls. Pass mayonnaise, sweet pepper pieces, and basil leaves. Makes 4 servings.

CHEMICALS IN BEAUTY PRODUCTS Part 1…

(DEA)- diethanolamine and (TEA)- triethanolamine, Cocamide (MEA), can form NITROSAMINES in products in which conatain sodium nitrate, preservatives and surfactants such as SLS, that over time can be broken down into nitrates and form dangerous carcinogenic nitrosamines.

A carcinogen is any substance directly involved in causing cancer. This may be due to the ability to damage the genome or to the disruption of cellular metabolic processes.

Nitrosamines are created in cosmetics when nitrates and various amino acids are in favorable conditions to combine. Specifically, nitrosamines form when certain proteins, such as diethanolamine (DEA) or triethanolamine (TEA) Cocamide (MEA), sodium lauroyal sarcosinate and amino methyl propanol, are used in the same products as preservatives that can break down into nitrates. As these various compounds break down over time, they can recombine into nitrosamines.

The inadvertent creation of this carcinogenic compound can add a whole new challenge for consumers reading labels for safety, since nitrosamines do not appear on a label, and the precursor building blocks are not clearly noted. A 1998 study by the UK Department of Trade and Industry showed that nitrosamine levels in some products actually increase in the months after a product is opened

Sunday fun at the farmers market.

So! After 6 months the temperature has finally risen above 10 degrees C, and the sun came out!
My flatmate and I decided to take full advantage of the situation and take a trip to the farmers market. I was squealing from excitement in about the first 2 seconds of arriving, as the first two thing I spotted were: KALE! and RAW MILK!!!
Now I do not usually drink any milk, due to the hormones, antibiotics and chemicals fed to the commercial dairy cows and also the pasteurization process pretty much renders any nutritional value of milk to zero. The milk tastes absolutely amazing, just like real milk is meant to. I also managed to do my weekly shopping for about £20 less than I would usually spend - a huge bonus, and which meant I had cash to spend on a yummy lunch and coffee, there may have been a carrot cake in there too ;) A fantastic day out and satisfaction that I am not only supporting my health, but also the local farmers who work really hard to bring us fresh seasonal food.

Chemicals in cosmeticsMost women these days are aware of some potentially harmful ingredients found in cosmetics. What you may not be aware of is some of the seemingly innocuous ingredients can turn into harmful ingredients when combined with other ingredients or form over a period of time. I have carried out some research and have been pretty surprised at some of the results. The reason I embarked on this research mission is pretty simple, over the years I have spent literally hundreds of dollars in the hopes that I would finally find the right products that would clear up my skin, I even tried using nothing at all except water, nothing helped - not even the most expensive (kora) organic skincare range helped me. I then tried the Simple rage of cosmetics and while it improved my skin condition I was unhappy with the amount of chemical ingredients it contained. So  FINALLY after about 6 years I found out that the reason for the redness and skin breakouts was due to having hypersensitive skin, even to natural ingredients. I have now found a product I am happy with that has helped 100% no more redness and my skin is clearing up beautifully, I will review this product at the end of my posts. Anyway, It all started one Saturday morning when I sat down and could not stop itching, huge hives developed all over my body and I couldn’t figure out why - then I realized the only thing I had done differently was use a new shower gel - it was natural and had botanical ingredients - no parabens and no sodium laureth sulfates, so I thought I was safe. That was until I sat down a researched all the ingredients… Sadly to say, that shower gel experienced a rather hasty trajectory to the trash bin.
I hope find some of the information I will be sharing with you as enlightening as I did, and empower you to make safe choices when purchasing cosmetics

“Believe it or not, a lot of your brain is made of fat (about 60%)! The neurons in the brain are coated with a protective, fatty coating called myelin that “shrinks” when you lose excessive amounts of weight. So it’s not surprising that brain scans of patients with anorexia nervosa or bulimia show brain atrophy, which is reversible if the woman gains weight.”
